Located today at 13 Place du Président Kennedy (formerly Place du Château), this building, which houses the Marguerite d’Anjou Hotel, was built between 1830 and 1840 by Guillaume Delalande and Marie-Jeanne Huet, his wife, in gardens that were part of the Hôtel de Gizeux, now the headquarters of the Angers Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Boulevard du Roi René.
In 1884, Marie-Rose Amoureux, wife of Landais, sold the building to Joseph Roux, who was a coachman. It was probably around this time that the construction of a private house was converted into a furnished hotel and a drinking establishment was set up on the ground floor. The family remained the owners until 1919.
It was not until 1962 that the name “Café Hôtel Marguerite d ‘Anjou” appeared in public statements of business transfer. René Charbonnet operated it until 1983, when Mr Joseph Moreau arrived. In 2010, the establishment was extended in favour of the adjoining building located at 15th of Place Kennedy by Mr. Pierre Poirier and Mrs. Anne-Philippe Martin de Frémont. Since June 2019, the Hôtel Marguerite d’Anjou (HMA) has been run by Mr Christophe Falaise and Mr Pierre-Louis Turquet.
